Birchwood Forest
At a donor event for Ringling College of Art and Design, we were tasked with creating an interactive projection mapped installation for a whimsical forest theme. We came up with the idea to have a birch wood scene displayed to a real life scale projected on the wall of the space. Scattered throughout the scene were a set of different animated triggers that would be activated as someone passed by them (this was done via a kinect device). While the scene would remain passively beautiful to accent the space it was in, it would also allow for the curious viewer to come up to explore and interact with it.
One of the original idea's for this was also to have the scene parallax in sync with someone walking by the scene to give the illusion of depth as they passed by. We realized that this however was more suited for a one on one experience rather than a space filled with a few dozen people, so we opted more for a soft ambient parallax on a cycle. All of this was powered through touchdesigner.
